the abrupt slowdown in the economy was not related to the election
It was related, that was a major factor. It began a year before the election when Gore could not take an early lead, as expected. The silliest thing I ever saw was many investors backing Bush, even though it was clear his tax plan and old-economy (anti-technology) outlook would poison the economy. Wall Street, of course, made money whether the market went up or down so they didn't advise, they anticipate. The slowdown in the economy is a reflection that the majority of Americans think that future prospects are worse under a Junior George administration.
