MOT says GSM to dominate

Motorola (MOT: news, msgs) said at the Banc of America Technology Week
conference in San Francisco that it believes the GSM standard will continue to
dominate wireless technology. GSM (Global System for Mobile communication)
is currently the European standard, and competes with Qualcomm's CDMA
(Code Division Multiple Access) technology. Qualcomm's stock (QCOM: news,
msgs) is slipping $2.06 to $84.38. Separately, Motorola said it had won a $130
million contract to supply digital wireless network infrastructure in Malaysia
based on GSM technology. MOT is tacking on 79 cents to $21.20.
