You can always blame social spending as the culprit, but that does not relieve the responsibility of the Chief Executive to run a balanced budget.

The economy was hardly in a depression in 1981, and in fact Carter had proposed a balanced budget before he was defeated.

Prior to Reagan, Republicans took the budget very seriously. Since 1981, the Republican MO has been blame and denial. Over 80% of our nation's debt has been accumulated since Reagan took office. This is not a coincidence.
