From your link home.europa.com No kidding. Medicare is doubling in cost every ten years. Yet when some Republicans tried to cut down the rate of increase - not actually cut the spending, mind you, just slow down the rate of increase - we heard cries of "Gridlock" from Clinton and the Democrats. The Republicans refused to authorize an increase in the national debt unless something was done to at least partially curb those huge entitlements. That shut down the government for a while. The Democrats' cry that the Republicans were obstructionists took hold. The fiscally conservative GOP members backed down. Bush's tax cut going ahead or being scaled back or being canceled is not the main issue. Gain control of spending and even with a tax cut it will be easy to handle the debt. The key is to at least control the rate of growth in spending. Tim
