The one point that perhaps we have been talking past each other about is whether or not the fact that I make certain unproven assumptions makes me irational or illogical.

Tim, I'm sorry if I seem to be picking on you. I just want so much for you to "get" this one little point. We're communicating just fine, IMO, on everything else. I don't think you're irrational or illogical. I follow your logic just fine (even though you sometimes get distracted off focus). And I've developed a certain fondness for your earnestness.

But as you say yourself, you "make certain unproven assumptions." There is no logic that will convince anyone of someone else's unproven assumption. You may be able to find some other way to help them to share your faith (that's faith with a small f), but logic doesn't apply. I don't have a problem with anyone holding a unproven belief. Just don't expect to sell it to anyone else via logic.

all logical arguments have to start with assumptions

I don't think so. I think they start with facts and observations upon which we make assumptions and projections and calculations, etc. We even, to X's considerable annoyance, generalize about them. When we start with an assumption, we end up with a speculation.

I'm going to quit now. Uncle. Lets talk again about something else. I enjoy and learn from our discussions.

Karen
