Ted Re..How is this different from what I said?<<<<

In your final sentence of that paragraph you started talking about the sucking sound. I thought you were skeptical of the oilmans claims.

All it takes is one oil spill and one of the few remaining pristine areas of this country is gone for good.

Gone for good; get real. It may take yrs to clean up and 50 yrs to get back to a pristene state but gone for good is ridiculous. And as much as we want to hate oil, oil is one of the staples of our life. Eliminating Anwar won't eliminate cars. It will just mean that we will go to an alternative power source earlier, but who can say what that alternative will be and whether it will do less damage to the enviroment. I don't know, do you?

Can you understand that it can't take being poisoned by anything. The world's ecosystem is beginning to struggle, we are losing new species everyday...there is a rare bird in Hawaii that has an incredible song..the last one was seen 5 years ago. This is being repeated everywhere in the world. <<<<<

Sure I can understand that if you can understand that without pesticides, we in the U S would be starving just like the people in Tanzanina. Altered corn and other crops could reduce our dependence upon these pesticides such that overall the enviroment will be better off.

This is the same Congress that blows billions on a star wars defense system that never gets built but suddenly becomes very niggardly when it has to deal with trains.

This is one of many examples where we choose to lag behind other countries, and are unwilling to take the necessary steps to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

Using the rails to ship freight is a possibility; but except for selected corridors; high speed rail has a far poorer chance of being accepted that that missle system does. People don't like mass transit. Period. Look at Britian. Britian has a great bus system, but it is dying. Look at BART. Even Japan's high speed trains are broke. At least star wars might have a definable cost. Rail could be the mother of all sinkholes with all of these fancy trains and nobody to ride them.
