LDAP is one important but relatively small part of the open directory puzzle. Scaling up to full X.500 is another, replication is another, security is another. LDAP will be one of several access methods we support to query our directories, thats pretty much the strategy (we aren't going to lock customers in to one access method since it typically forces them to throw everything they currently own out). Anyway, I am not the directory expert here so I don't want to be the one to explain, I can direct you to other materials if you are interested. -Thomas Reardon Microsoft
