This, IMHO, is a good example of "Office Politics"... and it SUCKS!
Bob is a "professional" who "knows" how data processing works and how it should be done.
SI, in it's infinite wisdom, has obviously gotten caught-up in letting the little snot-nosed young ex-spurts that have no idea of how to manage a data processing system, get away with letting Bob go (fired)!
Well, SI, you have a lot to learn!
Your latest absolute blunder was your implementation of The Streaming Portfolio!
AND, I'll bet you anything you want that Bob would have implemented, tested, debugged it, and put it online completely differently than was actually done!
You, SI, have no idea of how to manage a web site or anything connected to data processing!
Maybe you, SI, is made up of little snot-nosed college graduates that "know everything & can do NO wrong"?! . . .

In any event, IMHO, you have made another BIG mistake by firing Bob!
Therefore, I vote:
YES. . . Bring Bob back!. . . .then blow your nose to get rid of what you should!
