Although the total number of insider shares that could potentially come up for sale is quite large (1.2M or thereabouts) and will put downward pressure on the share price if and when the sales materialise, I wouldn't see this in any way as insiders showing a lack of confidence in the future of Macrovision.

Almost all of the proposed sales (1M+) are coming from various trusts related to Christiano family members. Matt Christiano is the founder of GLOBEtrotter which Macrovision acquired last year. Since GLOBEtrotter was a privately held and relatively young company prior to its acquisition by Macrovision , its owners did not have the same opportunity to liquidate some of their holdings as they now have. It is most likely they have had all their eggs in this one basket and now that they have the opportunity to reap the rewards of their success, they are taking the opportunity to do so.

Apart from the Christiano family proposed sales, the rest are relatively insignificant amounts and nothing out of the ordinary looking at past history.

Normally insider sales are limited to a 4 week period following release of their quarterly results (I believe this is voluntary requirement imposed by Macrovision on its insiders, rather than a statutory requirement), so the sales, if they do take place, will be in February/March as next results are due on 20th of February . However, it is also possible that this restriction may not be applicable to Christiano related sales, so don't bet on the sales not happening before February.
