that is correct, but what if they do take over GOLD and then increase their hedge by another 10m. oz.? these whackos are apt to do that...if they can't see the foolishness of their actions (WS brokers lowering estimates for gold prices and downgrading gold stocks today BECAUSE of the hedging news) one wonders how the industry will ever come up for air...

anyway, Anglogold is short of cash, and you may well be right that an impending takeover of GOLD is behind this. i for one would consider it a black day for gold stock investors if Anglo succeeded in such a takeover...yes, i'd get a premium for my GOLD shares, but the hedging whackos would then really control the market and the number of TRUE non-hedgers would shrink to one.

so with all gold producers then with hedges up their wazoo, nobody would be interested in higher gold prices anymore...which is so utterly perverse that i'm lost for words....how idiotic can it get???
