The posts I had in mind when I commended Shootie for his humor were the exchanges with judyblueeyes, who, if you didn't notice it, came out of nowhere, and in her first post on this thread posted to Shootie that his wife f***ed dogs on the corner with dogs for a quarter. That post has been deleted.

His response, which I thought was very funny, was to the effect of, why should she do that when they had dogs at home?

I think I know what you would have done if she had posted to you that someone you care about, say, Rambi, f***ed dogs on the corner for a quarter, and I don't think it would have been to respond with a joke. And Rambi is just a friend, imagine how hurtful it would be if it were your wife.

And the applause to the other people on the Right Wing Extremist thread was also for the way they handled judyblueeyes, whose posts on that thread were the most vicious, vulgar posts I've ever seen. If you didn't read them, you're lucky. So that's what I was talking about, "that person."

But as for the other posts, the ones that offend you, I don't mind vulgar jokes and bathroom humor. When I was growing up, Lenny Bruce was as shocking as Eminem is today, and Playboy was obscene. Now Lenny Bruce could perform on TV without changing a word, and Victoria's Secret catalogues show as much as Playboy did back then. It's just words, it's just pictures. We still live in a free country, the First Amendment still applies. If someone wants to say, "you rape 'em, we scrape 'em," or argue that women who are pro-abortion are adulterous, I think it's interesting. I've never heard anyone say that before, so now I know something I didn't know before.

It seems to me that I am better off letting my opponents speak and finding out what they think that way than silencing them and finding out the hard way. I think I have a higher tolerance for disharmony and contention than you do. I would rather hear the truth than be comfortable.

And there's always the Ignore button.
