Cisco does not have the best equipment anymore. Ciena, Juniper and NT are making inroads, and the recent dip in Cisco's stock may be the beginning of their transition to Lucent-status.... I don't it will get to Lucent-status. However, its importance may be less in years ahead. It is very strong in enterprise market. NT, JNPR, JDSU, CIEN and some of the communication chip stocks like AMCC, VTSS maybe the market leaders of tomorrow, once this business activity picks up (which may be happening right now or in the near future).
