Re: <A suggestion: SFF - Sink Fan Free>

I think they are too cheap for that. If you look at the price of the 1 GHz Athlon Mobile ($488) it costs more than twice as much as the Athlon SFF ($233). However, the Athlon SFF is more expensive than the "normal" Athlon. I think it could be a version with larger 2nd Level Cache (512kb) and the new Palomino core but without reduced voltage.

If they weren't 'cheap' though, there'd be no reason to offer them. That is, what is the cost of the fan? I suppose it could be a 'noise' issue, but my experience has been that the power supply fan and hard disk drive are just as noisy, if not noisier than the processor fan... Maybe the marketing department has finally found an issue (i.e. noise: Silent, Fast and Furious) they all agree on? <ggg>

Any chance that SFF is SMP capable? (mostly yuck, but whatever it takes?) Or SSE2 related? (yesssss!) I'd much prefer something sexy like SOI, pure silicon, large cache, or SSE2, over Sink Fan Free, but I fear that is the most likely.

Anyone know how reliable this pricelist table is? Maybe we're just spinnin' our wheels here.

JJ

EDIT: Price seems to be stalling a bit. Maybe i'll get one last buying opportunity before we go into orbit? <g>
