It's very hard for people who don't post on SI to "get it."

Last summer my husband and I spent the night at the home of an SI friend while we were driving to visit my folks on vacation. The fellow in question had two computers connected to the internet, one for himself, one for his lady, and for fun he and I both logged onto SI and started posting to each other on the thread we usually posted on.

My husband thought that was very strange, and he still comments on it.

I've tried to explain that posting on SI is a communal activity - at its best it's like being in a salon, sort of like having a table at the Algonquin with Dorothy Parker - but to him, the only frame of reference he has is a two part dialogue, so he just doesn't "get it."
