hi rick
in win2000..."got a message saying BE was already running, but a window of BE was not open. Couldn't shut it down either"...
are you familiar with w2k's task manager?
right-click on the task bar, select task manager. the application tab will show you the apps that are running, and give you the ability to end task.
the processes tab shows everything that is chugging away behind the scene, and you can highlight and press 'end process' to shut something down.
if you have something you want starting when win2000 boots (or conversely, something starting that you'd like to eliminate), go to
start \ settings \ control panel \ admin tools \ services
there you'll be able to see if each service is set for automatic, manual or disabled. to change a setting, double-click, then select one of the three settings from the 'startup type' drop down menu.
click 'apply' and ok
this does not address any potential conflicts between the software and win2000pro, but it will allow you to get a look at what is going on, and to close processes if need be.
hope this helps.
:)
