HK-listed PCCW launches plan to attract greater use of long- distance phone services Hong Kong Economic Journal; Feb 7, 2001 Hong Kong-listed Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd (PCCW), an internet technology company, has launched a plan to attract greater use of long-distance phone services. The plan was launched one day after three local long-distance service providers announced promotional schemes. Hong Kong Telecom, a subsidiary of PCCW, declared that residential phone users have the opportunity to win HK$1m worth of prizes, including apartments in Zhongshan, a city in Guangdong province. Phone users are eligible if they call the mainland by way of international direct dialling (IDD) 0060 or 001 between February 7 and March 31 2001. Hong Kong Telecom has a leading status in the region's long-distance phone market. The other three providers are Newworld Phone, City Telecom (HK) Ltd and a telecommunications subsidiary of Wharf (Holdings) Ltd. Copyright © Financial Times Information globalarchive.ft.com
