CO2 is not a problem with fuel cells -- the PEM cells use hydrogen for the reaction no matter what the input -- whether pure hyrdrogen, nat gas, propane, methane -- what have you -- a reformer chemically separates the hydrogen which is combined with oxygen in the cell -- primary by product is plain ole H2O

Burning of nat gas or propane creates a lot more CO2, but that is much less than the burning of coal -- that's why environmentalists like nat gas generation (compared to coal) ...
