Speedwise Opens U.S. Offices - Providing Accelerated Internet Access to U.S. Market

RA'ANANA, Israel & ROCHELLE PARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2001--
Innovative Products Enable Wireless Carriers, ISPs, Web Hosting Providers and Corporations To Offer Next-Generation Internet Performance
Speedwise Technologies Ltd., a provider of rapid-deployment software for accelerated Internet browsing and value-added IP services over wireless and landline networks, today announced that it has established its U.S. subsidiary, Speedwise, Inc., to service both North and South America.
Speedwise products allow end-users of all networks - from dial-up to wireless - to browse the Web at speeds of up to six times faster than before using a standard browser only. Speedwise products enable wireless carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide Internet users with full text and graphics, without installation of additional software on desktop, laptop, and handheld or cellular devices. The acceleration is achieved entirely at a site's server and is therefore transparent to the end-users.
"Speedwise delivers accelerated Internet browsing that returns broad benefits to every stratum of the Internet community," said Moshe Sheps, president, Speedwise, Inc. "As a global company, we envision ourselves as the provider of swift, intelligent browsing for wireless, ISP and corporate environments. Bandwidth inefficiency is effectively defeated with the Speedwise-enabled services."
Speedwise has partners worldwide that serve as leaders in international communications, including Sun Microsystems (NASDAQNM: SUNW); Comverse Technologies (NASDAQ:CMVT) a strategic investor and S&P 500 and NASDAQ-100 Index company; and Korean electronics giant LG-Lucky Goldstar.
Speedwise Solutions
Speedwise offers solutions for various businesses, including wireless carriers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Web hosting providers and corporations that want to offer next-generation Internet performance immediately to their customers, with minimal implementation and cost. Speedwise solutions serve four specific client bases:
- Wireless carriers can offer their subscribers a full and accelerated Internet experience from their laptops, handheld PCs and PDAs where users can access the Internet up to six times faster -- without client-side installation -- while the carrier benefits from better network utilization.
- ISPs can offer rapidly deployed, accelerated Internet browsing for landline users without additional client side software installations or dependency on last-mile vendors. Additionally, providers can also offer bandwidth savings to their leased-line corporate customers.
- Corporate Web site owners can immediately enhance a Web site's efficiency via accelerated download time that is up to four times faster for Internet users without additional and costly maintenance of several site versions catering to varied bandwidth levels.
- Corporations can provide bandwidth savings within corporate networks for remote access and branch offices. Mobile and remote employees can access corporate applications at increased speeds with decreased cost.
How does Speedwise do it?
Speedwise achieves this performance through a combination of patent-pending technologies that are based on two main concepts: content reduction and sophisticated content delivery. Highly sophisticated pattern analysis algorithms significantly reduce the bit representation of the downloaded objects as they pass through the server and shrink the volume of content to a fraction of its original size, thus enabling a faster delivery. Additional acceleration is achieved by sophisticated content delivery mechanisms based on advanced HTTP session management that dynamically maximize available bandwidth utilization and delivers content not only faster but smarter.
The technology is installed as a standard local area network (LAN) server at the connection point between the fixed or wireless network and the Internet. Users connect to the Internet as they normally do, using their HTML browser. Requests for content and the content itself are passed through the Speedwise server, which processes and optimizes arriving Internet content on-the-fly before it is passed through to the end-user. The result is a notable increase in browsing speed and a significant improvement in network utilization due to the reduction in data volume transported via the service provider or corporation to the end-users.
How Speedwise benefits clients
For wireless carriers, Speedwise enables the rapid delivery of the whole Internet over existing infrastructures and without client-side software. Speedwise solutions are rapidly and effortlessly deployed over all wireless networks. As carriers deploy next generation IP infrastructure, such as GPRS, the Speedwise content and network optimization capabilities improve over all layers from TCP upwards.
Speedwise's solution optimizes network utilization by reducing the number of data packets and processing Internet content in real-time. As the Speedwise solution is easily and immediately deployable, it allows wireless carriers to enter the full Internet services market over existing networks, without waiting for next generation infrastructure.
ISPs benefit from Speedwise's ability to grant them independence from last-mile vendors, because Speedwise is affordable, easy to deploy and requires absolutely no end-user installation or support.
For Web hosts, Speedwise allows "heavy-weight" content to travel easily over existing infrastructure. This gives Web sites access to new audiences, including wireless users. In addition, Speedwise technology significantly reduces the volume of data transferred from the Web site, immediately translating into significant savings in the site's operating costs.
Managed service providers (MSPs) that host Web sites can supply corporations with the value-added service of increased Internet connection for e-commerce initiatives. With Speedwise's solution, MSPs enable corporate customers to connect easily with e-clients, including smooth access to optimized images, graphics, animations and completion of a greater number of transactions in less time. In addition, the Speedwise platform can support future value-added services such as volume-based billing, content broadcasting and subscriber profiling - all designed to enhance subscriber loyalty and profitability.
Corporations benefit through the increased productivity obtained when employees have full remote access to corporate applications, resources and LANs and when customers can connect easily to a company's Web site and Web-based applications regardless of the kind of remote devices used to access a site.
