This is an interesting study of time from IND to NDA for pharmas in the 80's and 90's:

diahome.org

The fastest companies were Zeneca (now AZN), Glaxo, Merck, Pfizer and (surprise) Abbott. The differences were pretty dramatic - the average AZN time of 3.7 years was a full two years faster than the 5.7 year average. The bottom quartile took over 12 years! What's more, the faster companies also had quicker approval.

Be interesting to see who the slowest were, but the paper (kindly) doesn't show them.
