THOUGHT PIECE: CURRENT COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE FOR E-BUSINESS SOFTWARE
* We believe Ariba's proposed acquisition of Agile Software and i2's earlier

acquisition of Aspect Development represent the beginning of a trend toward

consolidation in the E-Business Software space. After assessing both

market sentiment and customer demand, we believe consolidation will

continue and intensify.

* Other potential acquisition candidates include AutoDesk, Clarus,

FreeMarkets, I-Many, Manugistics, PTC (Parametric), and webMethods.
* We believe the competitive landscape for B2B functionality is thriving and

the race is now on to be the first to provide the complete solution. In

this piece we assess the competitive landscape in the E-Business Software

space and outline what we believe to be the 18 competitive factors in

delivering the complete B2B e-commerce platform. These factors are ranked

in three groups based on level of complexity and barriers to entry.
* In our opinion, i2 has the most comprehensive offering with its strong

background in supply chain management applications, which contribute to

several of the 18 requirements, and partnership with IBM.
* We also provide a Competitive Matrix that shows how the leading vendors in

the E-Business Software space measure up against our 18 competitive

factors.
