Nokia chief says company targeting wireless
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The president of Finnish firm Nokia (NOK1V.HE), the world's largest mobile handset maker, said on Wednesday that the company is moving aggressively into the market for mobile Internet offerings, which he said provides ``unprecedented opportunity in many ways.''

Nokia president Pekka Ala-Pietila also told analysts at a San Francisco conference hosted by Banc of America Securities that the company will push hard to tailor and market products to teenage users.

Five years ago, professionals were the leading segment for mobile voice devices, but now the teen market is key for creating future generations of consumers loyal to the Nokia brand, Ala-Pietila said.

``What we're doing is really reflecting the needs and requirements of this very important segment,'' Ala-Pietila said.

Growing market share for its existing product lines is also important to Nokia, Ala-Pietila said.

``We have intentions and plans to grow the market share in a decisive manner,'' Ala-Pietila said. ``We are confident about our competitive position.''

Last month Nokia cut its estimate for global handset sales this year to 500-550 million units, from an earlier forecast of 550 million and said the upper end of that range was not likely to be reached because of the unfolding global economic slowdown.
