<Unbelievable that Intel would let another company have the 64 bit X86 market, isn't it? But they did.>

Bob Colwell, the P6 architect and P4 director had several pissing matches with Intel's management as far back as 1995.

The P6/P4 team was telling Andy that Merced was crap and that Intel had to go the x86-64 extensions rout. Not only Andy kept Merced, he would not even fund the x86-64 project. He did not want to "confuse" the market with two 64-bit ISAs.

Ever since 1998 my entire investment strategy has been based on the knowledge of these strategic blunders. It has been paying very well so far.
