"Motient to Provide Palm Users With Wireless Connectivity"

"New Cradle Gives Palm Users and 100k+ Developer Community Access to the Motient
Network"

RESTON, Va., Feb. 7, 2001 /PRNewswire/ -- Motient Corporation (Nasdaq: MTNT - news), owner and operator of
the country's largest wireless data network, has recently signed an agreement to provide Palm V/Vx(TM) users
with a cradle that will enable wireless access to vertical applications and the Internet using the Motient(TM)
network. The developer of the cradle, Wavenet International Limited of Perth, Australia, will provide Motient with
an initial order of 10,000 units to be delivered in mid-2001.

Motient's network provides the most expansive and pervasive coverage of any wireless data network in the United
States -- reaching more than 220 million people and providing the nation's best on-the-street and in-building
coverage. Since its inception in 1990, the Motient network has doubled in size and now operates more than 2000
base stations nationwide.

``The addition of this cradle to the Motient network opens up an enormous potential market for Palm-based
applications, not to mention new subscribers to our network,'' said Walter V Purnell, Jr., president and CEO of
Motient.`` The millions of Palm V users in this country are all potential customers. This new product is a major step
in our corporate objective of serving a wide variety of user communities, including Palm's. We also will benefit
from having access to the 100,000 plus community of software developers working on Palm applications.''

Wavenet's cradle integrates the Motient network with the Palm V device. The unit is always on and will
automatically alert the user of incoming messages. The cradle provides a constant connection to the Motient
network. This is made possible through an internal radio modem and a very low power microchip created by CML
Microsystems PLC of the United Kingdom. CML is a market leader in providing semiconductor chips for the
communications industry, including wireless data communications devices.

``Our new relationship with Motient will bring the convenience and value of this innovative cradle to millions of
mobile business users in the United States,'' said John Thompson, Managing Director of Wavenet. ``We feel
Motient, as the premier wireless data communications company, is setting the pace for the future of the wireless
industry. We expect the wireless cradle will open new market opportunities for both companies.''
