ALPNET announces two million word contract addition

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1997--ALPNET Inc. (NASDAQ:AILP),
the largest independent
dedicated provider of language translation, product localization, and
language-related services to international businesses,
today announced a substantial expansion of an already existing contract
announced May 21, 1996, to produce English into
French translation.

The contract expansion calls for production of an additional 2 million
words of English to French translation on top of the 4.4
million words specified in the original contract. The project addition
involves the translation of training materials, technical
materials, and documentation related to a light-armed personnel carrier
being produced for the Canadian government.

Dan Vincent, president of ALPNET-Canada stated ``The original agreement
called for the production of 4.4 million words
over a 30-month period. The additional 2 million words will be produced
over the next 24 months. In total, ALPNET-Canada
will produce 6.4 million words over a 36-month period with a total contract
value of CDN $1.4 million. This volume is being
produced using ALPNET's proprietary TSS translation system, in our Montreal
office. TSS allows ALPNET to utilize large
teams of translators working in groups, in order to produce this volume,
while maintaining terminology consistency and the
overall high levels of quality required by the Canadian government.''

Thomas F. Seal, president & CEO of ALPNET, stated, ``This contract addition
is an example of how ALPNET's investment
in growing its production capability can be of great value to clients, as
well as investors. Because of the investment we have
made in expanding the Montreal office in terms of space, equipment, people,
technology, and training, we are able to take on
the contract addition while the previous material is still being produced,
with no sacrifice in schedule or quality. The expansions
we have made in our offices in Amsterdam, Salt Lake City, Singapore, Seoul,
and Tokyo are expected to allow us to
undertake similar increases in volume in the coming months.''

Seal continued by stating, ``The Canadian market is becoming increasingly
important not only to ALPNET, but in international
trade as a whole. ALPNET has seen its Canadian sales of translation and
localization services grow dramatically over the past
three years. This growth is coming from our traditional Canadian bilingual
market, as well as from the Canadian export market.
We are seeing growth in high volume projects like this project, as well as
in low volume high transaction business from regular
clients.''

ALPNET is the largest publicly-owned exclusive supplier of worldwide
translation and product localization services, with more
than 375 employees working in 33 wholly-owned offices in 13 countries
throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.
ALPNET supplies its clients with language translation, product
