Yeah, my measures are more Draconian than that. I've got (used and owned for 10 years) a set back thermostat. I've already pretty much turned off my heat at night and have never kept the house at 70 unless the kids were sick. At perpendicular incidence, at the equator, in summer, we get almost about 1000 W/m^2. About half of that at northern US latitudes. Excluding coastal Washington and Oregon, that means we are running over with kilowatts.

I'd like to see everyone have a personal generator. In computer science we gave up mainframes (the analog of centralized power) 20 years ago. We've got to do the same with power generation IMO. I still use remote computer power but I am self-sufficient today if the Internet goes down.

This model has worked well with computers. It should work well with power as well. I see the grid as SUPPLIMENTING my power needs, not providing my basic needs.
