-Tyan 760MP Board News-Chris Tom 5:00 p.m. CST
I talked with Tyan and AMD at length about the 760MP chipset release. Tyan is shooting for a late Q1 release of their 760MP board code named Lions. The board is in final development. Now we know the features of this board are dual processor cable, has onboard scsi, onboard lan, and 64 bit PCI.

Now the thing that I found out yesterday is that the power supply connector is not the one you are used to seeing in previous Athlon boards. If you look at your connector for your Athlon board it is probably an ATX 2.01 or maybe 2.03 compliant connector. These connectors have a total of 20 separate contacts. The Tyan 760MP board has a plug with 24 of these contacts. Now as far as I know this is not 2.03 compliant. Now I just recently purchased a new case partially in preparation for a dual board. It has the normal 20 pin connector, but also a standalone 4 pin connector? So what is this 4 pin power connector? Look at my MSI KT7 Master review and you will see that it has a separate 4 pin power connector, which is what the Enermax 430 watt power supply my case has includes. Now would it be possible to use that connector in conjunction with the normal 20 pin to power the Tyan 760MP board? I don't know yet, but I will definitely find out.

Now, back to the AMD side of things. It appears from them that they are still scheduling the 760MP chipset release for the 2nd quarter. They will be working in conjunction with Tyan however as they are the premiere partner with AMD on the 760MP. Hopefully it will not be too much longer before we will start seeing some 760MP systems getting out to reviewers.
