everything i've ever read about swapping out the battery begins with these four words.... "turn off the computer". i can't see it going any other way, but then there are people on this board who have lots more experience with hardware components than i do. maybe one of those brave souls will give you a thumbs up on removing the battery while the machine is running.

sounds like you're having some fun, though. case open, installing cards and drives. be careful and good luck.
