Dell says cuts temp workers in typical quarterly move.
Thu Feb 08 20:55:00 EST 2001
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp.has cut back its temporary
work force in a move typical early in fiscal quarters, a spokesman said on Thursday."What
are you seeing is routine comings and goings of temporary workers in Dell," said Mike
Maher, spokesman for the Round Rock, Texas-based personal computer maker.
Dell typically increased its temporary workers toward the end of fiscal quarters and cut
back at the beginning of the following quarters, he said, declining to give any figures. Dell's
fiscal fourth quarter ended on Feb. 2. He also declined to comment on speculation that Dell
would follow other major technology hardware companies, such as Hewlett-Packard Co. ,
and make layoffs."There has been no announcement on reductions. I wouldn't
comment on such a rumor or any speculation that is out there."
