MSDW: Hyundai Electronics (0066.KS-W4,870-N) Preliminary Results Reflect Poor Balance Sheet Bonjun Koo

Problems relating to bad assets and subsidiaries are surfacing: HEI posted a net loss of W2T for C2000 due to a huge interest burden, write-offs of non-performing assets and equity-method losses.
As a result of a cut in our DRAM price forecast after lowering our C2001 PC shipment growth forecast from 12% to 5%, we lower C2001E and C2002E EPS.
Capex cut from W1T to W800B, the third cut in the company's capex since Nov 2000. Considering HEI's poor cash-generating ability, we think capex for C2001 could fall to W500B.
A capex cut would likely hurt HEI's competitiveness in DRAMs and bring down its global DRAM market share from 19% in C2000 to 14.5% in C2001.
