I have been thinking about adding Content Management (CM)companies to the EIP portfolio. They are players in the EIP space, however, many are focused primarily on other areas such as E-commerce or CRM. But, the same could be said about the BI and DM companies.

One reason I have not added them, despite the obvious relationship to EIPs is the B2B and B2C hype that has surrounded these companies. Another reason is the internet vs. intranet focus of most CM companies. Perhaps this distinction shouldn't be made and commerce focused companies should be grouped with the other EIP portfolio companies.

This would have the effect of greatly expanding the market this thread focuses on. I am also unsure if CM companies intend to move into the EIP space. They are much less mature than BI and DM companies yet many have higher sales and market capitalizations. Very few have every been consistantly profitable.

As you can see, I am undecided on this issue. Perhaps you (and other members) could help me decide through discussion. In other words: What is your opinion?

An interesting announcement from PLUM:

A one-hour Webcast on Thursday, February 15th will demonstrate how to build, manage and deploy corporate content with Interwoven TeamSite and the Plumtree Corporate Portal. For more information, visit the URL interwoven.com

The integration of TeamSite with the Plumtree Corporate Portal enables users to more quickly and efficiently manage portal content. TeamSite allows individuals or teams to develop and quality assure (QA) content in separate work areas that are virtual copies of the live portal. Content is then submitted to a staging area for merging and final QA before publishing. The new gadget can also initiate a TeamSite workflow to automatically route content for approval and/or publishing to the Plumtree portal. This process streamlines the submission process allowing faster time-to-portal, increased quality and version control of all portal content.

``Interwoven TeamSite is a great complement for the Plumtree Portal. Integrating and synchronizing the capabilities of the two applications only improves the efficiency and accuracy of operations ensuring that content approval and management be executed in parallel with other portal tasks,'' said Thomas Steding, vice president and general manager intranet/portal business unit at Interwoven.

The Interwoven gadget was developed by channel partner OAO Technology Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: OAOT - news), a global provider of information technology and eBusiness solutions. ``The development project was a successful and fruitful collaboration effort. OAOT was happy to lead the development of an important solution for customers. The combination of OAOT's eBusiness development expertise, Plumtree's Gadget Book and Plumtree and Interwoven's support made for an efficient development process. We expect our partnerships with these two companies will be invaluable to us as we expand our offerings in the eBusiness market,'' said Greg Pratt, president and CEO of OAOT.

The gadget is available at www.oaot.com and will soon be available from the Plumtree Gadget Factory at gadgets.plumtree.com.

``Interwoven and Plumtree are natural partners because our technologies are scalable, secure, easy-to-use and compatible with a wide breadth of other programs,'' said Glenn Kelman, vice president of product management and marketing at Plumtree. ``Both products are designed to complement an organization's existing systems, and both products are appropriate for large corporate deployments.''
