“The last time I saw a tax cut of this size coupled with
proposals for significant increases in defense spending was
20 years ago in the first term of Ronald Reagan,” Rep.
Michael McNulty, a New York Democrat, said after
members of Congress met Bush at the White House
Wednesday.
“And that proposal resulted in the largest budget deficits
in the history of the country and, over a 12-year period after
that, quadrupled the national debt,” McNulty said. “I don’t
want to see that happen again; I don’t want to go back to the
days of deficit spending.”
