DSL works voice over data, right? So you can call out while online?

It depends. The technology permits this, but your DSL provider must be an RBOC or a CLEC (or have an arrangement with the local RBOC) in order to offer the service. And they must have your line configured for both voice and data - and I'm not sure even that all of those that can, actually do.

VZ, as both an RBOC and DSL provider, probably supports this (I'm not in their area so I don't know for sure). Where I live, the RBOC doesn't offer it and the DSL providers aren't CLECs (an in any case they keep going bankrupt lol). So for me it's an extra line.

Regards,
Fund
