Reminds me of a skit I saw years ago where the older brother was running his hands all around his little brother saying "I'm not touching you!"

Indeed, the violation of space is at about 18" in non-combat mode. More like 20 feet if no armaments are involved and only arm waving. Ten times maximum range of effects for other weapons.
