John, I'm pessimistic today because Ken Fisher, the Forbes columnist is.

>My 2001 forecasts? I'm shifting to fully bearish for the first time in a decade. Next month I'll detail why the S&P 500 should be fairly flat this year. For a while it will do much worse. It should fall more, maybe down 25% to 35%, in the late third or early fourth quarter. Nasdaq should fare slightly worse, losing another 15% for the year—and at its nadir will be lower still than the S&P at the bottom. I think foreign markets will fare slightly better, with the World Index beating the S&P by just a few percent for the year. It's time to be defensive

make sure you read the second page, too.

If the past is any guide we'll have at least 3 more months of orders declines. I have learned to be skeptical of the outlook proffered by people in the industry. They were all extremely bullish 10 months ago and promised a continuing boom through 2002.
