Ben, I use Outlook Express and the only way I found to export messages is 'save as'. That only works one message at a time. If I select more than one message header, 'save as' is greyed out.

However - I just noticed I can...

1.select several message headers
2.click MESSAGE>COMBINE and DECODE

This combines the messages into ONE. Now I could 'save as' and save it as text.
