ed: You bring up a good point...

Very few large growth firms have successfully cut workers and not experienced some serious pain. Downsizing has a harmful impact on the culture of a company and many of the most talented workers wonder how commited the company is to them. Some of the leading tech firms (like CSCO, MSFT, and SEBL) have been able to avoid laying off workers. Who knows how long that will last. Yet, that has helped strengthen the culture of these firms. A few companies (like GE) have successfully weathered some major downsizing efforts...Yet, GE is not a tech firm it's a major conglomerate that once was way too large to be efficient. IMO, DELL management should think long and hard before they lay off workers. There may be other ways to lower costs and become more competitive. Just my views.

Best Regards,

Scott
