There are thousands of carriers and related service providers, and one would imagine that among them there are quite a few different wishes. Conversely, there are only a half dozen or so dominant local providers (and two dominant cable modem providers) who control 95% of the land mass, and set the stage for the others. The other 5% is wild west territory that is up for grabs, and must be shared by a veritable mob of upstarts, but this piece is nowhere near as extensible as the regions controlled by the dominants. Here, however, in the remaining 5% part, is where you find the leading edgers at work.
So, if the principles in my previous post hold true, then they apply to all of the carriers, large and small, dominant and competitive, whether they like it or not.
In the end it doesn't matter 'what' they want. They only get what the vendors and the platforms that have ubiquitous reach can support.
And, for the most part, these are platforms that were conceived during the Early- to Mid- Nineties, prior to the awareness of fiber's utility that exists today. |
