The internal combustion engine will obsolete itself soon enough, when it uses up all of the petroleum.

But should it be banned in less then 20 years after the date when Earth in the Balance was first published? (I say less then 20 years because he wrote it before it was published and also because in the last year or so he has said "we should do it sooner".
