Joe, to insert hyperlinks, what works well for me, using Explorer 3.0, is:

1) go to the web page you want to link to
2) make sure the address is visible : can be displayed under the tool bar by going in View, Options..., Address bar
3) put the cursor in the address and click, this highlights the whole address
4) press Ctrl+C to copy to the clipboard.
5) go to the "respond" page in SI and paste the hyperlink, where you want to, by pressing Ctrl+V.
