TimbaBear--Thanks for your well-considered reply. I don't disagree with the thrust of what you wrote, although i do disagree with the extent. I have zero sympathy with the Independent Counsel's pursuit of Clinton, although I also believe that there were aspects of what commonly was referred to as "Whitewater" that were troublesome (Hillary Clinton's turning $1000 into $100,000 in cattle futures is an example). I don't, however, see it as a sort of conspiracy, as you apparently do...
And while I completely agree with you that the American people are MUCH better off after 8 years of Bill Clinton's stewardship (I'm as passionate a Democrat as I know), I also believe that, had Bill Clinton controlled his neurotic sexual urges, Al Gore would be in the White House today, rather than President Smirk. Hell, that is so obvious as to be undeniable, in my view--Gore was tarnished (unfairly) for his connection to Bill Clinton, and particularly in socially conservative areas of the country (whoever dreamed that a Democrat would lose West Virginia!); Gore lost Montana by 25%, a state that Clinton WON in 1992! Bill Clinton did a good job as President (overall), but don't forget what he did to the Democratic Party--we lost the Senate, we lost the House, and we lost the presidency... That's ALSO a part of his record, and it's a very sad one.... |
