I noticed something with my old Armada notebook. It came equipped with Windows 95, I upgraded to 98 2 years ago, worked great (100% perfect) until .... tonight. I retired the notebook July 2000.
I decided to run the restore disk (CD), that would format the HD and reinstall Windows 95 and all the original software that the computer originally came with.
Windows 95 runs nice and fast.
Well, after the restore the system just hangs. I power down and after the memory check, no dos prompt or nothing, just a flashing line in the upper right hand corner.
I searched the support site on Compaq, and I am not alone. I would guess it's a Y2K problem with the BIOS.

I have an even older Compaq notebook than the one I am using, and it works great with Windows 95.
No big deal, I will be able to get it working again, with software, not going back to Windows 98, runs way too slow, I think I will just dump Windows and try OpenBSD or Linux.
Maybe your problem could be the BIOS as well. But if you don't have a floppy drive, you can't do very much with that thing.
You need a floppy drive to get that puppy running. I think it's just a software fix to correct the BIOS (Y2K fix) and you should be fine.
