The software and hardware systems people are using in biotech today are incredibly crude and primitive. Bioinformatics has been taking computing hardware and software designed for completely different purposes, and re-purposing it. There is an incredible opportunity to change it at every level. Very often, when meeting with biotech companies, you'll discover that a huge amount of what they're doing is directly informed by or driven by database searches and other bioinformatic things. You don't just head to the lab and start looking. Now you sit down and eliminate 90 percent of the problems before even starting down a path of a particular discovery.
