Theo, Is SanDisk a buyout candidate?

I guess at the current market capitalization there are probably a few
companies which might think about making overtures, but the question remains
whether the stock market's battering of SNDK represents an accurate assessment
of intrinsic value. Recall that the last secondary was offered at
(I believe) $68/share in the Fall of 1999, or a split-adjusted $34/share
in the wake of the disaster in Taiwan. If that was a snapshot of
the fair market value of SanDisk (about $2 billion) then the company
must be worth significantly more now. Look at the performance
of the company since Q3 of 1999...

I personally don't believe Eli has any interest in selling the company
just because we have hit a stretch of hard times. Further, there is a
poison pill in place.

As for potential suitors, I would consider any large, diversified
semiconductor manufacturer without a significant flash memory presence
as a potential buyer.

SanDisk is still so young though. I guess I would like to see what Eli
and his team can manage rather than counting on a buyout as the eventual
way out of this investment.
