Lucent supplies wavelength first to NTT

Lucent Technologies claimed a first today in an enlightened deal with NTT Communications for new DWDM equipment to squeeze even more capacity from its network.

The supply of Lucent's WaveStar OLS 400GL was hardly out of the ordinary, but the accompaniment of an L-Band amplifier allows NTT to make use of the rarely used L-Band in its fiber, offering a further 40 10Gbps wavelengths in addition to multiplexing achieved in the more commonly-used C-band.
