L.H: Profit growth of the S&P was over 20% during 99. It has dropped to 4% for Q1/2001 and falling.Further historh has shown that it is hard to ramp up earnings by more than 6% in any good Q. At best Q4/2001 can see an earnings growth of 10%. viz half that of 1999-00.

The " Second half of the year" mantra will in June change to the "End of the year ". Further cuts in rates will have to deal with inflation, CPI increases, Currency devalaution and Out flow of capital.
