did you see anything notable at the bofa tech conference?

Liz,

I know you did not ask me but I thought my conversation with the people from Ariba was of interest. The analysts and some investors seemed terribly focused on the change to term licenses versus pertual licenses. The reason being the difference in the recognition of revenue. The perpetual is recognized over time so much is deferred whereas, the term is immediate. It appears that Ariba is trying to receive licensing revenue as a recurring stream which would occur using the term model. The sales team is suggesting this sale as opposed to perpetual due to the fact it is 25% less on average. The deals made are negotiable. The recent quarter's numbers had less than 10% in term licecenses so the change in marketing hardly affected those numbers.

I could use your help at some point in understanding SCM which I know you know well. The Agile aquisition helps address this for Ariba but there is a ways to go. I2 seems to have a better product addressing SCM in fact no question about it. The problem is the I2 network is not nearly as large.

Akamai's story is extremely compelling. I did not ask when they would stop installing the huge number of servers. They can "program" these from their home office but I suspect true profits will not come until those large capital expenditures are reduced. Their client base is almost everyone that counts. I also see it when I receive emails from Macys or when on the Wall Street Journal site, etc. This is not to mention Yahoo's site which is a bit active<G>
