I and 99.9% of humanity certainly can relate to your last sentence. The average human lacks that unique coldness, arrogance, selfrighteousness, and above all ruthlessness that allows the powerful to get where-ever they're at. Attila the Hun, Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin,Pol Pot, William the Conqueror, Dave Gotti, Josef Mengele, Al Capone, John Wayne Gacy, Bill Clinton, Caligula, and countless others all share certain similar traits not the least of which is an overwhelming desire and need to control others. And yes, the United States has not been immune from its share of ruthless brutes in positions of leadership. What separates the United States from so many other countries and their leaders is the fact that our system of government contains some checks and balances that mitigate the damage that can be done by any one individual. I am quite convinced that an individual such as Bill Clinton could very easily have become a Stalin or a Hitler under different circumstances and during a different time in history. And frankly, his wife (if you can really call that relationship a marriage in a Christian sense) is a separate piece of work. In the meantime, while the Clinton's of the world are registering for freebie gifts for their million dollar homes, stealing furniture and other items from the white house, engaging in oral sex with young interns, lying under oath, pardoning fugitives, turning a blind eye to the pillaging of airforce 1 and all the while pretending not to be Tammy Wynette, the rest of us do what we can to get by as best we can while still trying to retain some semblance of morality. Most of us have a conscience and for those with a conscience the life of a Bill Clinton would be a living hell. |
