John,

To my horror, I found the authors talking in glowing prose of the "dot.com" potential! Arg!!! They even had the foresight to point out that while dot coms were not true gorillas, that none the less, they held tremendous potential as investments.

Don't criticize a book by the introduction until you've had a chance to read the clarifications in the hundreds of pages to follow. When you read the chapter about Godzillas, you'll see that they made it very clear that their opinion was that Internet stocks were highly overvalued and that they were due for significant retrenchment, despite that over the long term the Internet as a category was (is?) undervalued. Though they aren't into short-term timing, they couldn't have made a better call.

I hope they lost their shirts.

I hope people think more kindly than that toward you and me when we make mistakes.
