Hi Bullseye,
I do think Lernout and Hauspie is one of the best speech recognition stocks and business's. They have been licencing their technology from developers(other companies). Their expertise has been in inquiry multilingual applications. Until they acquired KURZ they had no emphasis in dictation. KURZ dictation products have been laging other developers.
There will be numerous new product claims over the next decade, but their usefullness will be awkwardsome and limited. When you try them you will understand.
Almost every major company associated with techno;ogy has worked on this at some time. It is one of the most researched fields in computer science. Recent advancements are directly related to processing speed and increased memory. To appreciate the difficulty involved you need to understand that humans only actually hear about 85% of the speech they recognize and process in excess of a trillion connections per second (actually it is closer to 3 trillion) using their lifetime data base of learned and associated knowledge. To assume you can approximate this during this period of limited processing power and software database development is absurd.
