As well, Louis is the master of deceit when it comes to accounting. He may well be able to keep the charade going a bit longer yet.

I bet he pulls out all the stops and keeps the train rolling until he's gone and leaves his successor with clean up duty. JMHO

the market has closed its eyes to IBM's essentially flat revenues and slightly declining earnings for over three years now.

IBM is essentially leaving more markets than it is entering. As the old timers put it, "there's not a thing that's not for sale at IBM". It's actually quite a feat that IBM has been able to keep flat revenues given how many divisions have been sold and continue to be sold. Take PC's for example, we're now out of a the retail market and that was BILLIONS in revenue per year (good timing I might add to exit that one last year ahead of what's happening).
